More than enough to kill her too, and she knew it. She managed to escape—not unscathed, but alive. Weakened, yes, but what hurt more than her injuries was the realization that she had no plan. No advantage. Nothing left to rely on except instinct.

She ran. She didn’t know how far she’d gotten, or how long she had until he caught up. All she knew was that she couldn’t keep running forever. She needed to disappear. To hide. Anywhere.
