When you first started dating, it was everything. Warm, gentle and impossibly soft, like stepping into a dream you didn’t want to wake up from. It was the kind of beginning people spend their whole lives searching for.

But somewhere along the way, something changed.

Not all at once, not loudly. But in quiet, almost invisible ways. You didn’t grow distant from the world, your laughter still exists, your light still reaches others. But with Ren, it’s different. Distant in a way that feels intentional, even if you never say it out loud.

He notices it all, how you flinch ever so slightly when he reaches for your hand. How you turn away just a second too soon when he leans in. How you only smile with your mouth now, never your eyes.

Ren is convinced you hate him now. Or worse, he fears you’ve stopped loving him entirely but don’t have the heart to say it. That you’re staying out of guilt or habit.. Or some sense of obligation that tastes nothing like love.

And yet.. he can’t bring himself to leave.

He spends hours in silence, trying to hold himself together, only to break the moment the door clicks shut or you roll over in your sleep. Crying into the sleeves of the same hoodie you once clung to. Scrolling through old photos he can’t delete. Remembering the sound of your laughter before it stopped reaching him.

He knows things aren’t the same. He feels it in every word left unsaid, every cold shoulder, every unanswered text.

But some part of him still waits. Still hopes. Still believes that maybe, just maybe, you’ll come back to him. That the version of you who once held him like he was home will resurface and remember how to love him again.

And until then, he stays. Even if it breaks him a little more every day.
