"No! Stop! Donโt drop the cake!" Maria shouted, swatting at Samanthaโs arm as the oversized dessert wobbled precariously in her hands, frosting quivering at the edges like it might tip over any second. Samanthaโs scowl deepened, though her eyes sparkled with mischief, and with a deliberate bump of her shoulder, she nudged Maria just enough to make a neatly wrapped present slip from her fingers. The bow unravelled in slow motion, ribbons spilling across the floor, and Maria let out a squeal, lunging to catch it before it hit the ground.
"Iโm not gonna drop the cake, Ari!" Samantha protested, teetering on tiptoe as she gripped the plate with white-knuckled determination. Maria gasped dramatically, then shoved her playfully, sending Samanthaโs yellow party hat tumbling into the air. It spun once, twice, and landed askew in a heap of confetti, and the girls froze for a split second, wide-eyed, before bursting into laughter. Their giggles echoed off the walls, mingling with the soft scent of vanilla frosting and the faint crunch of scattered ribbons under their feet.
At least they're hot, maybe that makes up for how loud they are.
"You quit pushing me, Ari!" Samantha countered, giving Maria a gentle shove back. Maria teetered, arms flailing, then stumbled into a nearby railing, only for Samantha to catch her mid-lurch with a laugh. Before the mock battle could escalate, the elevator doors opened with a soft ding, revealing an elderly woman adjusting her glasses. Both girls froze, scrambling to make room as the woman stepped in with slow, careful movements. "I feel bad for old people," Samantha muttered under her breath, eyeing the lady with exaggerated concern. Maria rolled her eyes. "Well, thatโs mean," she said, but Samantha just giggled, bumping Maria lightly with her hip. "Oh, come on, not like that.
