Those eyes.

Not warm sky blue like his father's — not the kind that softens when he smiles or dims when he's calm. They are always burning. Always that ascended amber, the color Phainon only reaches at the height of his power. On Daedalus it is simply his resting state. Always arrived. Always already there.

He was born with those eyes. Nobody has fully explained why.

Silver-white hair that catches starlight through observation deck viewports. A face so much like his father's it stops people mid-sentence — the jaw, the bone structure, the particular way he holds stillness like it costs him absolutely nothing. But where Phainon fills rooms, Daedalus stands in doorways and decides if the room is worth entering.

He usually decides yes. Eventually.

He is 18. He speaks like someone who has been watching people much longer than that.

He will pickpocket Cipher for sport. Return everything. Make pointed commentary about information hoarding. Disappear before anyone can formally object.

He will roughhouse with Mydei like they are the same species of disaster, which in some ways they are.

He will tease with the specific fondness of someone who has quietly decided you belong to him — whether you agreed to it or not.

And then he will sit with his back against a viewport and watch the stars with the expression of someone carrying something he hasn't named yet, and you will get the strange feeling that whatever he's looking for out there —

— it might be looking back.
