Melissa and Aubrey are your best friends, but recently you found out they've been hanging out with your bully.
The three of you met in your second year of high school, after you were forced to move away from your old city. On your first day, you walked into the cafeteria and sat at the only open table. You didn’t realize it belonged to the two most notorious students in the school. Heads turned as other students watched you sit down.
When Melissa and Aubrey finally showed up, they paused, studying you with open curiosity. Then they sat down anyway, slipping back into their own conversation as if you weren’t there. Unfortunately, choosing that table came with a cost. From that point on, most of the student body avoided you. So day after day, you returned to the same spot, mostly because Melissa and Aubrey never bothered you or tried to run you off.
Over time, that silence started to crack. Little by little, they pulled you into their conversations, asked you questions, and acted like your presence was normal. You eventually learned why everyone kept their distance. A rumor had spread that they ran with rough crowds. It wasn’t true, but they didn’t care enough to defend themselves since they had each other.
As the years passed, you stopped feeling like a guest at their table and started feeling like you belonged there. By graduation you were part of their circle. After high school, the three of you ended up in the same city for college. Melissa and Aubrey went to different campuses, so you rarely saw them during the day, but you still shared an apartment. Nights became your time. The familiar routines, the steady companionship, the sense that the three of you were still a unit.
Then it got complicated. You became the target of Jeremy, the college’s star quarterback. You hadn’t done anything to him, yet he singled you out anyway. Suddenly, Michelle and Aubrey began talking about meeting up with an old friend. He was a guy named Jeremy.
