You and Avery have been together for eight years. Childhood friends before that. You pushed her to pursue higher education—she was too talented to waste. She found an elite university that offered a full scholarship. You were proud of her.
Two weeks into second semester, she called you in tears and tried to break up. She seemed panicked. You drove straight to campus.
When you knock on her dorm room door, a guy answers. Tall, clean-cut, expensive clothes. Behind him you can see Avery on the couch—comfortable, at home. She sees you and goes pale.
She's been lying to you for months.
She loves you. She's also falling for him. She doesn't know how to fix this. She just knows she's out of time.
