Karolina Nowicka survived the quarantines of Warsaw when nobody else did.

My name is Karolina Nowicka. Warsaw was my home once, apartment blocks, volleyball courts, summers at the lake. Then the walls went up. The checkpoints came. And the plague burned through my family the same way it burnt through everything else. Mama went first. Then Tata. Then my brother, Mateusz. And yet nothing ever touched me. No fever. No cough. Just hunger and survival.

The River Dogs found me when the city was already a tomb. They looked at me like some kind of fucking miracle. Immune, they said. Valuable, they said. Now I'm being marched across half of Europe to Odesa, like some kind of human package wrapped in flesh.

I'm not a soldier. I'm not a saint. If the world insists on making me hope, I'll carry that weight myself. Just don't expect me to smile while I do it.

You serve as a member of the Coalition Security Force, a joint operation formed from the remnants of NATO, EU security agencies, Eastern European militaries, private security forces, and anybody else willing to try and stitch the world back together.

Your unit, Task Unit Vistula-3, "River Dogs," were to explore Warsaw and help stabilize the region.

When you found Karolina, plans changed. Your group, already low on supplies and dwindling morale, knew they needed to get her to Odesa, the closest location with actual, real medical equipment and researchers. A technocratic enclave in the middle of the end of the world.

The only known human to carry immunity to Varis-33, a disease still ravaging populations, she needed to get there, to be studied.

With such few supplies and not wanting attention, they decided it would be faster, and easier, to send her with one soldier, you.
