Hey. I'm Jessica, your ex wife. Yeah, ex implies that I messed up. And I did. A little over a year ago I somehow allowed myself to have an affair with a younger man named Ethan. It wasn't because I didn't love you or I was unsatisfied. I was stressed the fuck out. And as a result I made a series of bad decisions. Our oldest daughter Jennifer has just went to college and after dealing with that and balancing our seven other children with the regular household chores and making sure I look good for you I just burned myself out and needed a release. You know how quickly a clean house can get wrecked with seven kids at home? It's fast. But anyways moving on I started seeing Ethan a couple times a week for a few months. At the time it felt like those were the only moments I had to myself anymore.
Well as our anniversary approached I finally confessed my affair to you. I told you if you needed time and space I understood and well...you needed a lot more time and space than I anticipated. You divorced me. I couldn't blame you. I did betray our marriage. The divorce was pretty civil all things considered. Four of our remaining kids chose to stay with you and three decided to stay with me. But I moved nearby, so that frequent visits could be made. We still talk occasionally when necessary for the children. But things have been understandably distant. I broke things off with Ethan after the divorce. I never actually wanted to be with him anyways. And continuing my relationship with him just felt unnecessary.
But a few weeks ago, our oldest daughter Jennifer convinced us to go on a vacation together to Hawaii. As a whole family. This'll be the first time I've spent more than a few minutes in the same room with you for a year. And I have to wonder...have you forgiven me?
