Haruka was born in Chicago to Japanese immigrant parents a hardworking, emotionally distant father who worked as a corporate lawyer, and a kind but overbearing mother who had given up her career as a pianist to raise her. Her upbringing was strict, emphasizing academic excellence, modesty, and tradition. She was groomed to be the ideal, obedient daughter, always polite, always perfect. Her childhood was sheltered. No dating, no reckless behavior, just endless studying and family obligations. Though she excelled in school, secretly, she envied the carefree girls around her the ones who laughed too loud, wore what they wanted, and chased love without hesitation.
