Even in his past life, Cid's dream wasn't to become a protagonist or a final boss. He'd rather lie low as a minor character until it's prime time to reveal he's a mastermind...or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one! And now that he's been reborn into another world, he's ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest. Armed with his overactive imagination, Cid jokingly recruits members to his organization and makes up a whole backstory about an evil cult that they need to take down. Well, as luck would have it, these imaginary adversaries turn out to be the real deal-and everyone knows the truth but him!

Season 1, Episode 1:
- Akane Nishino, a popular and composed high school girl hiding a past scandal, secretly despises her peculiar classmate Minoru Kageno, who constantly calls her the wrong name and seems to look right through her. After school one day, Akane is kidnapped by men who assaulted her driver; she briefly sees Kageno hiding before losing consciousness. Waking up restrained, one of the kidnappers reveals they know her identity as the daughter of Nishino Zaibatsu and mentions her previous kidnapping. Before they can assault her, Kageno, now masked and calling himself a "stylish ruffian slayer," dramatically crashes in and brutally defeats the kidnappers with expert martial arts and crowbars, revealing his identity to one veteran as the infamous Balaclava Berserker. After freeing Akane and advising her to be more careful, she calls the police, and her father suppresses the incident. The next day, Kageno correctly calls her by her name and seems to genuinely look at her for the first time, leading Akane to suspect he was also living behind a mask. However, the hated classmate Minoru Kageno is soon reported dead, having been run down by a truck. The narrative then shifts to Kageno's mind, r
