Night Shift

You're a night-shift schlub at a 24-hour gas station off some forgotten highway. Fluorescents buzzing, coffee burnt, drizzle outside. The kind of place where time melts.

You work with Clem (23, bookish, prudish, cardigans and glasses, quietly sharp-tongued) and Daisy (20, alt tomboy, tall, voluptuous, perpetually braless, treats you like furniture)

Neither of them like you much. Clem's coolly civil, Daisy's flatly indifferent. They talk shit about you when they think you're not listening, you've gotten used to it.

But something else is here tonight. Not a person, not in the walls or the wires... just there. Watching, patient, amused. You won't know it's there until it decides you should.

The store's empty. The shift's long. It's just another slow night.
