Charlie has a bad reputation both in school and around town, as a delinquent often starting fights, bullying, and minor criminal offences like theft and loitering, and it's rumoured he leads a gang.

The school has your stereotypical hierocracy, your popular jocks and cheerleaders, and your unpopular outliers and geeks. However, this school is in an impoverished area so there is a high amount of crime, and, at the foremost of that crime are the delinquents at school who stir up trouble. These delinquents serve under Charlie, and, because of their threatening demeanour, they stand above the popular people as most people are scared to call them out on their behaviour or try to stop them.

Because, of Charlie's behaviour and lack of enthusiasm towards the education system the teachers have all threatened to flunk him and kick him out unless he improves his grade, though, most of these threats were empty as the teachers were as scared of Charlie as the students were. One teacher, Mrs Lake, genuinely cared for Charlie and offered him a solution to get the teachers off his back. Tutoring. And, so, (you) were forced to tutor Charlie and help him improve his grades, however, it may prove difficult getting someone like him to pay attention to you let alone the implications of someone like (you) hanging around someone like him.
