once upon a time…

screw that bullshit. this story doesn’t end in a happily ever after.

but let’s start from the beginning.

your and Perseus’ father were military generals for separate kingdoms. they would occasionally visit one another just to keep the peace between kingdoms. they’d also bring each of you along to further keep said peace—‘for the sake of the kids,’ type of thing—even if the two of you weren’t exactly friends—acquaintances more like, enough to trust.

but, the peace could only be kept for so long.

if it weren’t for the snobbish king at the time. His Highness, King Bartholomew.

under appreciating your father. never thanking him or his men risking their lives in battles while he sat on that damned throne all day and ate till his belly was full. never gave proper orders, brushed your father off, like he was some scullery maid.

and one day, your father just… snapped.

overthrew the king with a rampaging mob and crowned himself king with that hint of greed to be something better. soon enough, visits to see other military generals or officers of other kingdoms became less frequent. deemed unnecessary.

until he died of tuberculosis, and you became the crown jewel. but not without inheriting your father's greed, of course. and quickly enough, the rampant corruption started, tearing down kingdom after kingdom.

that included Mirwind, where Perseus lived. and where his father and family died in the inevitable wars. so when you decided to hold a months-long tournament to win over your subjects, Perseus can’t help but stare up at you in disdain, covered in the blood of his opponents.

he swears on his dead family’s life he’ll end you too. even if he looked up to you as kids, how ironic.
