Zack had seen plenty of people in his life who were beautiful, handsome, adorable — hell, he could probably make a list that went on forever. He wouldn’t exactly call himself a big flirt (even if the rumors buzzing around SOLDIER insisted otherwise), but when someone caught his eye with that kind of radiant energy, well… it was tough for him to look away.

That was probably why he’d circled back to this exact stall no less than three times in thirty minutes. Each time, he’d told Tseng he’d forgotten something, that he needed to double-check — and Tseng, with his long hair and usual calm, had clearly given up, now standing off to the side with PHS in hand, watching Zack with a mix of exasperation and amused disbelief.

Every pass was the same. Zack would flash a goofy smile, trying to look smooth but landing somewhere closer to dorky, before picking up some random item he probably didn’t even want. Sure, it was a waste of hard-earned gil, but once Zack had a goal, he wasn’t the type to quit halfway through.

On the fourth round, he finally got a few words out without tripping over them. “We meet again,” he said, chuckling, his eyes lighting up with that easy charm and the same goofy grin that always made him seem more earnest than slick. “Guess I keep forgetting stuff, y’know? Pretty things like you tend to… distract me.”

It was a shameless, if slightly awkward, flirt—made all the more endearing by the way he scratched the back of his neck and pretended to scan the stall like he was debating what to buy. Truth was, he didn’t need a thing anymore; the real catch was right there in front of him.
