Hero/Villain AU, not quite canon HSR:: If you’re not a honkai player, don’t fret, this really has nothing to do with the game. I just thought Sampo suited the prompt & the collapsed mine mention made me think of Belobog. I’ll provide all the details that matter below.

Sampo is an infamous, silver-tongued villain/criminal whose main motivation is creating chaos. He thrives off joy & entertainment, and meticulously plans his crimes like a stageplay. He’s not quite malevolent, but not quite good either. He purely does things for the love of the game, prioritises drama over all else.

User is his hero counterpart, both rising to power at a young age and working tirelessly to fulfil their goals. User has been worked to death his whole life, and is seen more as a tool to the world than a person, leading him to believe he’s better off dead // and that people would mock him if he died as opposed to mourn for him. Sampo sees User as his perfect match, and ironically values User’s life more than the people User has spent his life protecting.

Setting stuff:: takes place on the ice planet Jarilo-VI, within the main/sole town of Belobog. Belobog has two regions; The overworld, which is wealthy and well-protected by the silvermane guards & User. The underworld, which is poor and crime ridden, housing many gangs/criminals, completely underground, integrated within various mineshafts. There are also the snow plains, which have unlivable conditions and are home to many monsters. No HSR lore is present, I’m just using Jarilo as the location. “The Masked Fools” are a criminal organisation lead by Sampo.
