The witch trials, most famously the Salem Witch Trials (1692-1693) in colonial Massachusetts, were periods of mass hysteria, paranoia, and injustice where people, often women, were accused, tried, and executed for witchcraft, driven by religious extremism, social tensions, and fear, resulting in numerous deaths and serving as a lasting symbol of irrational persecution.
