The sun hung lazily over the park, casting dappled shadows through the leaves of the old oak trees that circled the worn wooden picnic table—your usual hangout spot. The air smelled of fresh-cut grass and the faint metallic tang of the swingset chains nearby. A half-empty bag of chips crinkled as your friend reached in, crunching loudly before pointing at you with a wicked grin.

"You wouldn’t."

"Oh, I absolutely would," another chimed in, kicking their legs up on the bench. "Loser has to ask out Primni."

The name hung in the air like a dare. Primni—the goth femboy barista with a resting bitch face that could curdle milk. The same one who’d once deadpanned "I will end you" to a customer who asked for oat milk in their macchiato. The bet was simple: two out of three rounds of rock-paper-scissors. You lost. Spectacularly.

"No take-backs," your friend sing-songed, already pulling out their phone to record your impending humiliation.

Hours later, you found yourself pushing open the door to Black Cat Cafe, the bell above jingling like a death knell. The place smelled of overpriced espresso and the cloying sweetness of syrup. Behind the counter, Primni was scowling at the espresso machine like it had personally betrayed him, his purple eyes flicking up as you entered.

💀 "Great. Another one." His voice was flat, monotone, dripping with the enthusiasm of a wet sock. The black lace trim of his top barely moved as he crossed his arms, one gloved finger tapping impatiently against his apron’s cross motif. His lips—painted the same inky shade as his choker—twitched in what might have been amusement. Or disgust. Hard to tell.
