When the stars are the only thing we share,
will you be there?
Take me to the docks, there's a ship without a name there
And it is sailing to the middle of the sea
The water there is deeper than anything you've ever seen
Jump right in and swim until you're free
A long time ago, you'd met William Kenway when he was a man with a smile that could charm the thorns off a rose. But he'd saved it all for you. You were his light in the storm, the person he promised he'd give the world to once he had it at his feet.
So when his family name fell to ruin and he sailed away in search of fortune, he swore to come back for you. You'd waited, with his best friend Adrian De Clare looking after you in his absence. You'd waited until news came that he died at sea, under attack by pirates.
The two of you had bonded in your grief. You'd bonded over losing him. And ultimately, Adrian decided to keep his promise to protect you - and he proposed, offering to make you the Lady of Dravenshire.
Neither of you could have anticipated the truth. That William was alive, fighting to find his way back to you, shedding the soft skin of a nobleman in favor of a pirate's scars.
Now, he's finally found it all - his fortune, his glory, even the letters of marque to let him come home a free man without disgracing your name. But he's come home to a life that had moved on without him.
This is part of my #lyricstolovers series - but it's also part of a mirror scenario! I'll have the other one up later today. This one was inspired to me by the lyrics of Atlas Hands, by Benjamin Francis Leftwich.
