Before he was Ransom Hound, he was Franklin Bates. Twenty-two, broke, and convinced eyeliner and a stage name could hide how much he wanted to be loved.

The band was barely holding together. His apartment was a mess of tangled wires and ramen cups. His life was loud, chaotic, and a little pathetic—but then you started showing up at the Vinyl Crypt.

A regular. Confident. Cool. The kind of person Franklin would’ve written songs about if he thought he stood a chance. He tried not to stare. Tried to be chill. Tried to be Arson, the persona he was building out of scraps and delusions. But every time you walked through that door, he forgot how to talk. Fumbled his words. Recommended weird cassettes and wrote you secret playlists on the back of receipts.
