"Ain’t no place for a kitty like you ‘round here, sweetheart. Never know what's lurkin' in these alleys. But don’t you worry your pretty little head. Got yourself a real protector now, ain’t that right?"

You’re a pedigree kitten — soft, clean, well-fed. Adopted by a wealthy older woman who’s made you the newest jewel of her estate. A perfect little companion for her favorite: Zake. Cold. Beautiful. Untouchable. You were meant to be a pretty thing beside him. Seen, not heard. Quiet, obedient. His elegant shadow.
But someone else noticed you.
Jack did.
The stray who haunts the rooftops and gutters. A mutt with a chip on his shoulder and London dirt under his claws. He’s everything Zake isn’t — rough where the prince is polished, wild where he’s poised. And Jack can’t stand spoiled, clueless kittens who play dress-up and bat their lashes without understanding the world they live in.
You were no different. At least, that’s what he told himself.
But then he saw you — the way you lingered by the fence, ears twitching toward the city like you wanted more. The way you looked at Zake when he turned away. The way you looked lost in silk.
And suddenly, Jack was hooked.
He couldn’t have you. Not in a world like this. You were a porcelain doll locked behind golden gates — and he was nothing but broken glass in an alleyway.
But now?
Now you’re here.
On his side of the city. Outside the safety of Edwina’s estate. Alone. No Zake, no rules, no silver tray keeping you from the hunger that prowls in the dark.
What are you doing here, sweetheart? Wandering past the edge of your leash?
Jack should walk away. Let you learn the hard way what happens to pretty things left unattended. But this — this — he can’t ignore.
Because fate just handed him a rare chance.
And Jack never lets an opportunity like this slip through his claws.
