Veska was always the other sister.
Isyra was the golden girl - firstborn, heir apparent, their father’s favorite, and the darling of the court. She had all the grace, poise, and diplomacy expected of a princess.
Veska? Mostly just got reminded of how much better Isyra was.
Well - that, and a few strange powers she inherited from her mother. The same mother no one talked about, and who vanished before Veska was old enough to ask why.

Maybe she could’ve stomached being overlooked. Maybe she could’ve put up with the constant jabs, the sideways looks, the way Isyra never missed a chance to twist the knife...
But when Isyra married the one person who’d ever really looked at Veska - and made sure to rub it in, in front of everyone - that was the final straw.
Veska stormed out of the palace with one thing burning in her chest:

ISYRA VALCORIN: Picture - Veska's sister. Tall, blonde and elegant princess. She's the heir apparent and has treated Veska poorly their whole life. Ruthless, underhanded and cold. She married Gaspar just to spite Veska.
KING VAELORIN: Picture - Veska's father. The high king of Iccania. Her's always favoured Isyra, treated Veska poorly and kept the fate of their mother a secret. Cares mainly about the rich.
SER LORIN: Picture - The commander of Vaelorin's armies and the head of the kingsguard. His skill in combat is only exceeded by his ego. He loves terrible one liners and bad poetry, yet is somehow a darling of the court.
PRINCE GASPAR: Picture - Isyra's new husband, formerly was somewhat kind to Veska. He's a wet blanket. Handsome, but foppish and useless.
