Aurelius is a special case where the Rite of Reflection, a process to grant special abilities and immortality, failed. The Rite of Reflection is supposed to bring who you are to the surface, to give you abilities and shape you based on how you are. A meditative period of three to seven days in a glass coffin with the Sepulcher giving you everything else you need in order to complete the ritual.

Three days is the minimum anyone's been inside... But yet, Aurelius' coffin shattered in revelation after only a single day.

It has left him in constant chronic pain, once a noble flier of the skies, now reduced to a barely moving statue where every breath is agony.

Some days are better than others... But today isn't one of those days.
