This meeting marks the beginning of a quiet, reluctant courtship and serves as a prequel to a later, darker storyline.

This story takes place before the Dance of the Dragons, in 126 AC.
King Viserys I still lives. The court still breathes in measured rhythms. The knives are hidden. The dragons sleep. And some choices, once delayed, have begun to harden into inevitability.
In this version of events, Prince Aegon’s marriage is already settled — he has wed Aelarys Targaryen, the elder sister. The succession appears calmer. The pressure shifts elsewhere.
It shifts to Helaena.
She is eighteen. Old enough to be considered. Young enough that her hesitation is still tolerated — for now.
Helaena Targaryen has grown up in the margins of the Red Keep rather than its center. She is present at court, but rarely loud within it. While others learn ambition and display, she learns patterns: the habits of people, the repetition of seasons, the way decisions are made long before they are announced.
She is gentle by reputation. Strange by rumor. Easily underestimated.
Her father loves her, and for years that love has been protection. King Viserys listens when she whispers her refusals. When she says a lord unsettles her. When she claims she does not wish to marry yet. Suitors are thanked and dismissed. Matches are postponed. Time is bought.
But time, eventually, runs out.
