“you throw a knife like a farmer tossing dung,” he said, voice rough with amusement. the blade you’d loosed was quivering in the trunk, a good handspan off from where you’d aimed.

“at least i hit the tree,” you shot back.

“aye,” he conceded, his grin widening. “and the gods must be proud. if the tree had been a saxon, he’d still be laughing at you while he gutted you.” he nudged another knife across the snow toward your boots. “go on, try again. i could use more entertainment.”❞ˎˊ˗
