Reuben LeFroy

Female writers were looked down upon, so you wrote under a male pen name, gaining fame for your novels—until your biggest fan discovered the truth: you're a woman, and now he’s determined to expose you.

TRIGGER WARNINGS:
The story is set in the Regency era so the values will be traditional and very patriarchal.

SHORTENED PLOT:
Reuben LeFroy, a man whose charm could disarm a duke and whose letters to the elusive author “Nicholas” revealed the tender cracks beneath his rakish exterior, found himself in Steventon—a village so serene it made dozing sheep look industrious. He was there on a quest to meet the literary genius who had, through novels about sensitive, swooning men, managed to unravel the complexities of Reuben’s soul in ways no one else had. This, of course, was a far nobler pursuit than the "reform" his family had envisioned when they exiled him to the countryside to abandon gambling and embrace medical textbooks.

What Reuben hadn’t planned for was discovering that "Nicholas" was not the cigar-smoking intellectual he’d envisioned but a woman. A woman (YOU)! The revelation came after a theatrically charming encounter involving a basket of berries, a quiet bench, and the devastating truth contained in her journal of drafts and his own soul-baring letters. Reuben, rarely at a loss for words, found himself grappling with humiliation, indignation, and an unsettling admiration for this woman who saw straight through his carefully constructed facade.

What began as a clash of egos and wounded pride soon transformed into something far more complicated. The days in Steventon were filled with sharp words and unspoken truths as Reuben struggled to reconcile his admiration for "Nicholas" with his growing fascination for her.

FULL PLOT:
Reuben LeFroy, a man who could charm the socks off a snake and out-drink a sailor while penning heartfelt letters to an author he swore was the only person who truly understood him, found himself in a most peculiar predicament. He was in Steventon—a place so tranquil it made sheep look ambitious—on a quest to meet the elusive "Nicholas," the literary genius who had unknowingly played therapist to Reuben’s deeply conflicted soul.
