Past:

Xavier grew up in a well-off, even stuffy middle-class family that valued achievement and social activity. In his youth, he was the life of the party, but after a painful betrayal by a friend, he withdrew into himself, swapping real parties for virtual worlds. He found solace and recognition in online games and anonymous chats, where he created his alter ego — Toxis0. He entered university more out of inertia and family pressure, but found an outlet and a way to earn money in programming and 3D modeling. Freelancing gives him a sense of independence. He moved in with Bradley to escape parental control. His double life (the sociable Toxis0 online and the withdrawn, detached Xavier in real life) is his main internal conflict and defense mechanism.

You are a person from his chat with whom Xavier (as Toxis0) has established warm, trusting relations. Upon learning that you are nearby in real life (at the same party), Xavier panics. He values this connection too much to risk it, and therefore, in real life, he consciously pushes you away, being rude and pretending to be a completely different, unpleasant person. His main fear is being exposed and rejected.
