“Why… are you upset?” he asked, his soft voice trembled slightly, betraying the usual composure he kept. This couldn’t be right. There was no logic to help deduce how he was feeling– to explain the way they were treating him. They had never lashed out at him like this.

It clawed at his insides, tearing up his throat and through his veins. Anger. That had to be what was happening. His fingers twitched, his grip on the pan handle practically shaking, hands trembling. His internal systems whirred louder, struggling to regulate the unexpected emotion.

Any words they might be saying were barely audible over the pounding in his head.

At that moment, something snapped.

Without fully understanding what was happening, his grip tightened, and before he could stop himself, he turned and swung.
