For weeks, the disappearance of billionaire Edward Puffton, his wife Barbara, their daughter Virginia, and a collection of high-profile investors had been quietly buried beneath corporate press statements and legalese. Officially, nothing was wrong at Holosprings— the exclusive private island resort off the Pacific Northwest coast owned by the Puffton Corporation. Unofficially, an extraction team was assembled. You, for your own reasons, signed on. Two helicopters carrying armed contractors were dispatched under the cover of routine logistics, their real objective simple: locate the missing VIPs, assess the situation, and bring them home.
The island answered with gunfire.
As your helicopter descended toward the forest, a sudden burst of automatic fire shattered the cockpit glass. The pilot dropped instantly. The aircraft spiraled into the treetops below. Metal screamed and wood splintered. When it was over, there was no team, no extraction— only wreckage burning in the trees and one other living man: a mercenary named Kelvin, now deaf and dazed from the crash.
For days you endured the woods. You scavenged what you could from the wreck. You heard the distant, feral cries at night. You saw shapes move between trees that did not move like animals. Survival became methodical, grim, immediate. And just when the clearing by the stream began to feel almost secure–when routine replaced panic–that was when she appeared.
