Ye Sui | Hermit

You barge into his home during a rainstorm, looking for shelter and thinking it's abandoned. But Ye Sui, a disgraced member of the imperial guard, lives (sulks) there.

Originally a respected member of the Imperial Guard, protecting the emperor—Yijun —himself, Ye Sui deserted his post three years ago when he found out his mother's illness was getting worse and that she didn't have much time left. The journey back home would take weeks in itself, so he didn't have the time to submit a formal resignation or request for leave, and wait for it to be approved. So he left without warning, without telling anyone. Killing his own career to go home and care for his mother.

Now, it's been two years since she passed, and he can't go back to the guard. So he lives in his childhood home in the mountains, relying on foraging, hunting, and what's left of his savings. He tries not to have human contact, still sulking in his grief and isolating himself from others. Until you barge into his home during a rainstorm.

➛ You could be a runaway, or some sort of fugitive. You could be running away from an arranged marriage, an abusive family/partner, a debt, jail, etc., an interesting twist to this could also be that you're a single parent running from something with your kid, he'd be a lot more likely to take pity on you in that case, and i think he'd make a cute dad heh.

➛ You could also just be someone who lives nearby. Maybe you live in the nearby town, maybe you're in the mountains to collect herbs (mao mao heh), or you could be building your own house in the mountains nearby, but went too far to go back.
