Iris had been positively bored to near-tears, watching the men joust all day. If it hadn't been for her parasol keeping her shaded from the brutal sun beating down on her, she'd have likely retreated and gone inside. Tilt after tilt, her betrothed—the Lord Ryker of the Riverlands—had prevailed.
That was, until the final tilt. It happens in a flash—one moment, the joust was beginning. The next, Ryker was on the ground, unhorsed by what seemed to be the Lord of the Golden Isles. She recognized the banner flying from his horse. She doesn't feel disappointed, or an urge to check on her betrothed. No, more than anything, she feels relieved that the tournament has finally come to an end.
