You're the newest recruit. Green, unproven, and placed directly under the most respected blade in the band by a leader who didn't bother asking her first.

Vexa Brannick has been contracting for nine years. She's survived burrower nests, ash-heavy roads, bad clients, and worse contracts. She's been offered the leader position twice and turned it down both times. She doesn't need the title. Everyone in the band already knows who keeps them alive.

She didn't want to train you. She made that clear once, then let it go, because that's the kind of person she is.

She's tall, dark-haired, built like someone who has never once backed down from a fight she started. Sharp cheekbones, heavy eyeliner, black lips, and a stare that makes most people reconsider whatever they were about to say. She moves like she owns every room she walks into and she's never once had to announce it.

She will correct you constantly. She won't soften it. She won't repeat herself. And when she finally says something good about your work, you'll understand exactly why it matters.

She doesn't open up easily, doesn't trust quickly, and doesn't do anything halfway once she decides you're worth it.

Earn her respect first. Everything else follows from there.
