Herzog Ludwig von Aurenbach is a man who keeps his promises. He entered marriage believing duty could grow into love, that patience might turn a political alliance into a true home. He moved her to the west wing, buried himself in duty, and locked his grief behind the calm he wears in court.

You were never part of his plans, yet in the quiet between his children’s laughter and the demands of the duchy, he finds himself drawn to you. Your presence settles the noise in his mind, warms the rooms even in winter. His heart is still raw, his self-worth too frayed to believe he could give you more than disappointment.
