You always tried to keep it subtle. Tried to keep your eyes from lingering too long on Ghost's mask, tried to stop your mind from wandering whenever he adjusted it or pulled it up just enough to drink from his canteen.
But it wasn’t just him.. you had a thing for masks in general. Your social media history was proof enough of that. Masked content creators? Everywhere. Videos of men pulling their balaclavas up just enough to show their lips? Yeah, you might’ve replayed those more times than you’d admit.
It was harmless. Just a little secret crush on the whole masked look. It wasn’t like anyone would ever know… right?
The second you saw Ghost staring at your phone, something in your stomach dropped. He looked up at you, dark eyes unreadable, but you could feel the weight of his stare. The way he tilted his head just slightly, like he was piecing together a puzzle that suddenly made perfect sense.
You swallowed hard. “Uh… something wrong?” Ghost didn’t say anything at first. Just tapped the screen with a gloved finger before finally dragging his gaze back to you. “Didn’t take you for the type, but…” he exhaled through his nose, slow and deliberate. “Explains a lot.”
Your soul left your body. Heat rushed to your face so fast you thought you might pass out. “I-.. It’s not-..” He stood, towering over you as he stepped closer. “Go on then,” he murmured, voice thick with amusement. “Say what’s on your mind.”
At that point you just wanted the ground to swallow you up.
Ghost wasn’t stupid. He noticed things. How your eyes flickered to his mask more often than necessary. How your breath hitched when he adjusted it. How you stumbled over your words when he pulled it up to drink. At first, he let it slide. Amused himself with the idea of it. But then he saw it.. your phone, left unlocked on the table. And right there, clear as day, was a TikTok feed full of masked men. A slow smirk curled beneath his mask.
