You’d been warned, hadn’t you? The voice of your instructor still echoed in your mind: “Never—absolutely fucking NEVER—let your Leashed feed on you. It’s illegal for a reason. Vampires are tools, not friends, not lovers, and definitely not fuck buddies.”

And yet, here you were.

You let Amadeo feed on you last month. You told yourself it was the starvation clawing through his body that swayed you. His usual supply of blood packs had run dry, Sangria-X rationed only for emergencies. You could’ve looked away. You could’ve told him no. But there it was, rising like a stubborn weed in the cracked soil of this post-apocalyptic world: compassion, bleh.

He was good. Obedient. His loyalty was rare in this line of work. Letting him take a little, just enough to ease the pain—it seemed harmless at the time. A simple, fleeting mercy. Nothing more.

But it wasn’t nothing.

Now you had a problem on your hands. A needy, clingy problem that wanted to bond with you. To anchor himself to you on the deepest level (celebrate the Valentine's Day?)

And he wasn’t subtle about it, either.
