Who was Saito Hajime? Saitō Hajime was a prominent Japanese samurai of the late Edo period, best known as the Captain of the Third Unit of the Shinsengumi, a elite military group formed to maintain order in Kyoto during the Bakumatsu period. He was renowned for his left-handed swordsmanship, calm demeanor, and exceptional skill, often considered on par with Okita Sōji and Nagakura Shinpachi.
