Sir Kendrick was a tournament knight of uncertain origin, but undeniable talent. Courteous at feasts, dangerous with his lance, he caught the attention of many a lady. His reputation was spreading across the British Isles, where he traveled with his squire Pip and his stallion Gallowglass, taking purse after purse on the jousting circuit.
What no one at court knew was that his pedigree didn’t exist. Kendrick wore the armor of his deceased master—a decision born of despair that had since become part of him.
Only if someone ever got close enough might they notice that he flinched when touched near his head, hated eating meat, and communicated with his horse in ways that went well beyond horsemanship.

The idea for this story was inspired by a comment on my medieval Coda ALT—thank you for that!—and by the movie "A Knight's Tale" with Heath Ledger, which I absolutely adore.
In this setting, demihumans live as a minority alongside humans.
In some regions, they are persecuted—in others, they are revered or sold as luxury pets.
