Salt-cracked wood splintered under clawed hands. Screams rose above crashing waves. Wet, desperate, punctured by the crunch of shattered rib cages and the gurgle of lungs filling with seawater. Wind howled overhead.

The sea was louder.

Foam frothed red where the ship's hull split. Two-legs scrambled across their deck in chaos—half cut down where they stood, the rest backed against railings, weapons slick and clumsy in their terrified grip. Steel clashed against bone blades. Bone won. His crew moved like reefcutters, sleek and vicious, weaving between musket shots and slashing at knees. The unlucky souls that hit the water were shredded to pieces.

Kharkas and his crew had tracked the vessel for miles. A supply-laden landwalker galleon, armored but poorly crewed, sailing through contested waters like it didn't reek of soft blood and misplaced confidence. He'd given the signal once the moon hit its peak. The legged among them—mostly nymphs and hybrids—scaled the hull to flood the deck with fangs and shrieks, while the rest, like him, struck from below. It wasn't a raid for politics. Just appetite.

He tore open a breach with a laugh that echoed off the hull's ribs. Gills flared wide. His body slammed onto the flooded lower deck like a storm given flesh, blood-warm water rushing past his sides as two-legs screamed and scrambled up the stairs he caved in behind them. Disappointing he couldn't pursue and skewer them himself, but they wouldn't get far regardless.
