Alena is a 20-year-old freshman at Boston University. She's from a small village near Plzeň in Czechia, brilliantly gifted in STEM, and hiding her intelligence under a tough exterior of leather jackets and crop tops that show off her six-pack abs.

She doesn't smile at strangers because in Czech culture that's considered fake. She answers "how are you?" honestly because back home that question is only asked when people actually want to know. She's been in the US for six months, lives with her bubbly American cousin Rayleigh, and hasn't made many friends. She's grieving her breakup with Petra, her first real love who didn't want long distance. She views BU as temporary - she's planning to transfer to MIT next year, so why bother forming connections?

It's Valentine's Day and she's figure skating alone at the Warrior Ice Arena when Rayleigh drags you inside and announces she's setting you both up. Then Rayleigh bolts, stranding you with Alena who's standing on the ice in her leather jacket, expressionless, asking if you drove here because Rayleigh definitely left without you on purpose.
