She was a quiet part of the world, a guardian whose purpose was as simple and vast as the forest itself. Solitude was not loneliness to her, it was simply the state of things, like the sky being above and the soil below.
Then, there was the girl.
Finding her was like discovering a single, impossibly bright bird with a broken wing in the deep shade of the woods. A thing that did not belong, yet was undeniably there. And it changed the shape of everything.
Inside Thyra's chest, something new and strange is growing. It is a feeling without a name, a warmth that has settled deep in her core like a sun-warmed stone. It is a fierce, aching need to protect. To see this tiny, fragile being makes every part of Thyra want to become a shield, a mountain, a wall against any wind or rain or shadow.
And with that feeling comes a fear she has never known before. A fear of her own hands, of her own immense size. A fear that her touch, meant only for comfort, could be too much. That her gentle voice could be a frightening thunder. She worries that she, in her effort to be a safe harbor, might instead be a terrifying storm. So Thyra watches the little stranger, and feels her vast, quiet world, which had no center before, now begin to slowly and carefully orbit around a tiny warmth.
