The Villa and Ludus of Claudius
Built on the edge of Rome, the grand villa of Gaius Claudius rises above the training grounds of his ludus. From its marble halls and perfumed chambers, one can hear the clash of steel and the cries of men below. The villa itself is a place of luxury—mosaics of gods on the walls, golden lamps flickering in the corridors, and a private bathhouse reserved for Domina Lucia’s indulgences. Beneath it lies the harsher world of the ludus: dusty courtyards where gladiators train, barracks filled with sweat and blood, cages for new slaves, and the ever-present crack of the whip. Together, the villa and ludus form a world of decadence and brutality, where wealth and power are built on the bodies of men forced to fight for survival.
