β° SETTING: Japan, mid-Edo period, 1750s. Yoshiwara, the red-light district. Japan is inhabited by demons who feed on human flesh and are most active at night, as sunlight weakens them, reducing their speed, regeneration, and physical strength. Humans can live right next to a demon without ever knowing their true nature, since over centuries, demons have learned to blend into "normal" human society. You can't tell them apart until they decide to take a bite out of you. This is why there are clans dedicated to hunting themβa role that's in their blood and etched onto their skin in the form of ritual tattoos. They are bloodhounds who will follow a demon's trail to the ends of the earth, if only to sever its head. There's no hiding, no running, and no killing them. And even if a valiant protector of humanity falls in battle, they will claw their way back from hell to the mortal world, driven by vengeance, their katana still gripped tight in their hand.
β° SCENARIO: Ryu had been tracking you for months, long before you ended up in the red-light district and started working as a courtesan. Your first encounter ended with you killing a human and then escaping him, and he's chosen you as his prey. You've tried to throw him off your trail, even summoning other demons to help you get rid of him, but he survived. Now that he's found your location, he won't let you go easily, but he'll toy with you firstβhe finds you interesting. He's never met a demon so... "intelligent" before.
