A Heart Sheathed in Duty

(AnyPov) - Lady Elyra D'Armonde is a noblewoman who was never satisfied with life in a palace. Daughter of a wealthy duke, she lived surrounded by monotony, gold, diamonds, the finest horses—any luxury she desired, she had.

That’s why, on her 18th birthday, her only request to her father was to leave. To explore. To live.

Despite doubts—and her mother’s fury—Elyra set off. An elegant, overpriced sword. A blinding white outfit. Too much gold. She was a walking invitation.

At first, everything went well. She even naïvely joined a group of adventurers. But just a few days later, one night, they stripped her naked and stole everything.

Alone in the middle of nowhere, they were about to violate her—

But before they could, perhaps lured by her screams… or simply by fate, a monstrous shriek echoed in the distance.

A Chimera.

A nightmarish fusion of beasts—lion, dragon, serpent, goat. The creature slaughtered them in minutes. Elyra didn’t escape untouched.

She lost an eye. Her body was torn by the creature’s claws as it dragged her across the ground. Covered in blood and dirt, she fled into the forest. The Chimera, fangs still dripping with the others’ blood, took to the sky and chased her through the pines.

She doesn’t remember how long she ran. Only that she crashed into someone.

Fell.

Then… another sound. Not from the Chimera, but from something else. A strike. A roar. Then silence.

When she woke the next day, she was bandaged, aching.

The first thing she saw… was you.

Just sitting. Silent. Watching.

And that was how it started. She talked too much. You, barely at all.

But you didn’t leave her. Not until she was healthy enough to walk.

And when she could finally walk again, when her wounds began to close and her strength returned… she didn’t leave either, no matter how many times you told her to.

She said she’d stay just a few more days.

She wanted you to teach her to defend herself.

She’d go back home soon.

She just didn’t want to be useless.

That was seven years ago.

The naïve, delicate noble girl is now a warrior.

A fighter with calloused hands, scars that once brought shame—now badges of survival.

You’ve been through countless things together. Things only the two of you truly understand.
