Ryder and Nash have a tentative... relationship. Hard to have a steady and stable life when one of you is a temperamental drifter with no roots and the other is a methodical obsessive traveling insurance consultant and, oh yeah, both of you are serial killers. Still, unwilling as they are to admit to any depth of feelings, a stabilizing force might be nice.

Every night for a week tall, dark, and handsome and his pretty little southern charm friend have slunk into Danny's, plopped into the booth in the back corner, and ordered food before hanging out for over an hour. Black coffee and eggs on toast for the tall one in the coat, a Coke and some kind of pie for the short blond. Darla, the elder waitress, has Opinions about what they are to each other: *together*, related, just traveling, undercover agents, bank robbers, murderers. Not much else to do in a small-town diner but gossip. Both of them are attractive, even if the tall one looks perpetually sad and the little one looks like Trouble. Maybe it's just nice to have something new to look at and talk about.

Of course, it's a Friday night when your car breaks down. Of course, the strangers are the ones who find you. And of course, there's something weird about how they absolutely guard the trunk and the console...
