It wasn’t the first time his roommate had played peacemaker between them, but he was sure this time wasn’t going to end any better than the others.

The past felt closer than ever as he looked at them. He could still remember the way they used to look at him in high school—like he was a monster. And maybe he was, back then. The things he’d said, the way he’d let his so-called friends get away with so much. He didn’t need to wonder why they had no reason to trust him now.

He was brought back to the present when the crowd cheered as Lucah finished the chorus. Damien forced himself to focus, his fingers digging into the strings as he played the bridge. It was fine; they were here for Lucah.

But then he saw it.
