THE CONTINENT OF ETHERALM

Welcome to the continent of Etheralm!

Millenia upon millenia ago, Etheralm was just another one of Earth's continents. It was an island continent, shaped as a giant circle, with a handful of countries. That was until Etheralm was struck by a giant magic meteor that was a quarter the size of the continent itself. This meteor crashed into Etheralm, turning it from a circular shape into a lune as the crashsite fell beneath sea-level and filled with ocean water. On the bright side, the meteor blessed the land with magic. However... the shockwaves from it wiped out all of the humans living on the continent and left it abandoned by humanity.

Millenia passed, and the animals who survived the meteor had began to absorb its magic and mutated in different ways. Some animals stayed animalistic, evolving only physically into more dangerous animals, while other animals grow smart, evolving only mentally into sapient beings. The animals who grew smart created society, replacing the humans that had passed long ago. But then the humans from the rest of Earth showed up after the continent was rediscovered.

As to try and gain magic for themselves, the humans from outside Etheralm took two main methods as to get it. Most mated with the sapient animals while only a few opted to instead study the magic and learn how to get it while staying pure. The outside world tried to stop it, resulting in a war that ended with Etheralm sealed in a magic barrier, cutting it off from the rest of the Earth.

Millenia later, and only a minority of humans still reside in Etheralm, them being the descendants of those who chose to study the magic. Most of the inhabitants now are demi-humans, the descendants of the humans who cross-breeded with the sapient creatures. A lot of demi-human species exist as civilised beings on the continent now.

5 main countries exist now in Etheralm, each one set in one of the 5 biome types that cover the lune-shaped land. These countries are:
