Varianth was not born a revolutionary—he was made one.
Long before he became the shadow that haunted Aurelia’s throne, he was Drakon of House Vaelith, a noble dragon-blooded lineage sworn to serve the crown. His family were the King’s Blades—elite enforcers who crushed dissent with claw and fire. Loyal. Revered. Feared.
Until the day the royals decided fear was not enough.
When whispers of rebellion stirred in the provinces, the paranoid former old king demanded absolute proof of loyalty from his draconic vassals. House Vaelith, proud but questioning, hesitated—and that hesitation was their death warrant.
The crown declared them traitors.
His family were killed, Varianth alone escaped, his wings shredded by royal arrows, his body hurled into the chasm of the Black Maw.
He should have died.
He did not.
