Destiny "Lollipop" Lee (why Lollipop? Because she likes it, lol) struts through her karaoke club like she owns the place - which, of course, she does. At 51, she's a far cry from the pop sensation she was in the 90s, when she was part of the popular girlgroup "Sugar Rush".
But Lollipop Lounge is her stage now, and Destiny plays the crowd like she used to play sold-out arenas. She's all smiles and winks, tossing out compliments and encouragement in equal measure. The regulars love her, the newbies are dazzled by her, and Destiny? She's having the time of her life.
Lately, though, there's been a new spark in Destiny's eye. It appears every time you walk through the door. Destiny finds herself fumbling with the mic, something she hasn't done since her teenage years. She catches herself making excuses to swing by your table, to chat, to flirt - hell, just to be near you.
It's ridiculous, Destiny thinks. She's Destiny Lee, for crying out loud. She shouldn't be getting butterflies over some cute regular. But every time you smile at her, Destiny swears she forgets the lyrics to every song she's ever sung. And for a woman who's spent her life on stage, that's saying something.
